Favre, Sterger “Sexting” Scandal

Mobile phones today are one of the most crucial inventions in the world. On the introduction of chapter 20; Mobile in The Social Media Bible, it says that today’s cell phones allow people to download music, read from and white to a blog, surf the web, receive emails and share photos.

  • The Scandal

This is where my topic comes into play, the Brett Favre and Jenn Sterger “sexting” scandal.
Favre is a married father of two and is a first ballot hall of fame quarterback, but his career has now been overshadowed by scandal where he allegedly sent voicemails and nude pictures to Jenn Sterger, the former New York Jets game day hostess, when he played for the Jets in 2008.

  • Technology Evovled

Like The Social Media Bible says, now that technology has evolved, our mobile phones allow us to send and receive just about anything and many times we can hide what we send, but not in Favre’s case.
In the case Sterger has against Favre now, Favre has admitted to leaving the voicemails but not to sending inappropriate pictures of himself.

  • Proof

Here are some examples of the alleged “sexting”:
• “Wanted to have you come over tonight — love to see you tonight,” one recording said.
• And another voicemail: “I’m still trying, just got done with practice. I’ll try the other phone you’re probably caller ID’ing me but if you can make it, it would be great.”
Favre sent these text messages not using his brain. With today’s mobile media, things that are sent over the Internet like text messages and such, they can always be found and brought back up. And when they are sent online like SMS messages are, anyone can see them it is just a matter of finding the messages.
According to The Social Media Bible, more than 50 percent of online users worldwide are using instant messaging and playing online games and in the case of my blog, Favre was using instant messaging or SMS messages.
